Sandy Stillman-Alvin is a native of the Pea Ridge (Sahara) community and is the corporation’s founder.

In 1937, with the opening of the original Albemarle Sound Bridge, the building on our property was opened to serve travelers along the newly opened highway. The immediate area has been home to several businesses including Soundview Restaurant - a landmark and center of business for many years; The Stillman Company, selling furniture, appliances, sewing machines, home decor, and propane tanks for residents; Craddock’s General Store; and many other family businesses that have come and gone over the years.

Much of the property in the area was owned by the Patrick family from whom our property was inherited. It is our privilege and honor to share stories and exhibits that tell some of these stories and more. 

Our corporate mission is to provide space to gather as a community; a market for local farmers, artisans, and artists; and a museum to preserve and promote the rich history of the Sahara (Pea Ridge) community.

We value the hearty spirit of makers and growers, the importance of unity in building community, and a keen awareness of the past that guides us toward a healthier present and future of both individuals and communities.

Proudly positioned on the southern shore of the Albemarle Sound Bridge on Hwy 32 in Roper, NC, we welcome you to what is known locally as Pea Ridge. This  has historically been an agricultural community with many merchant services available to support a rural economy.  Steeped in history, this area seems in many ways to have been forgotten, but it has an opportunity now in the digital age to be not only rediscovered, but to be highly valued for the treasure that it is.

Whether you’re a grower (farmer) or a maker (artisan), an interested volunteer, or a curious neighbor, please let us hear from you! Vendor applications are available and multiple volunteer positions are available as we open for business in phases.
